This visa is for qualified people aged under 49, with good English language skills. For most visas in this category, applicants must pass the points test. Points are awarded mainly for qualifications, age, work experience and English language ability.
You must have post-secondary qualifications (university or trade) and your skills must be assessed by the relevant assessing authority for your nominated occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). Only occupations on the SOL will attract points.
The younger you are, the more points you score. Applicants aged 45 or over at the time of application cannot get this visa.
All applicants must have their English language ability tested. This may be done by English language testing : the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Occupational English Test (OET) for applicants with a usual occupation in health professions.
Additional points will be awarded if the applicant also has an offer of full-time employment in that occupation.
There are few visas, e.g. the skilled designated area-sponsored , and the skill-matching visas, where the points test does not apply but the applicant has to satisfy other skills requirements. Please contact us for more details.
